ALERT  - 30ft gaff-cutter-rigged motor-sailer with bowsprit 34ft overall. A fine example of Scottish North East Coast craftsman-built timber construction.  Watson-designed, long-keel hull was the last one built of this type.

 

Built by Jones of Buckie (1960) as an estuary salmon-netter, but as the boat was completed the law was changed and was never used for fishing. Converted to a yacht. And completely refitted in the‘eighties, Alert has standing headroom of 6ft 3ins in the wheelhouse and main saloon

 

Construction is to typical Jones standards with Larch on Oak, sawn frames with decks now in Jarrah (Australian Eucalyptus wood)

It is powered by the original  Bollinder 3cylinder diesel engine,42HP at 1400 rpm producing a very economical six knots at 1000 rpm using approx ¾ gallon an hour.

 

She has made extensive family cruises around the West coast of England , Ireland and Scotland from the Scillies to Orkney.

There are 6 berths in 3 cabins with a heads compartment equipped with  Lavac toilet, sink and shower. 

 

Galley with gimballed, stainless-steel  Nautic cooker 2x hobs, grill and oven, all with flame failure. There is a  12 volt/gas fridge.

Comfort for an extended cruising season is provided by the Eberspacher 5kw diesel-fired central-heating and hot water calorifier which is also fed by the engine.

 

A heavy displacement cruising boat, she is extremely well  equipped with modern electronic navigation equipment. A sea-kindly vessel she has cruised extensively throughout the west coast of the UK from Scillies and Ireland to Orkney. She is offered with a mooring at Crinan on the Mull of Kintyre
